Frequently Asked Questions
Your Million Dollar Cruise FAQs
Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions — from what you’ll experience on board, to the bar menu, what to wear, and where to arrive. If there’s anything else you’d like to know, just get in touch. We’re always happy to help.
How long is the cruise?
Our classic lake cruise is a 90-minute scenic trip. The perfect amount of time to relax, take photos, and enjoy the best seats in town for those million dollar views
How many people does it hold?
We’re all about a relaxed, genuine experience with fewer people on board, so you get great views and space to unwind. Our regular cruises take up to 40–60 guests. Or if you’re wanting a private cruise, exclusive charters can host up to 80 guests.
How old is a child?
The Children’s ages on our lake cruise range from 5 to 15 years old. Infants, aged 0 to 4 years, are free of charge.
Are under 5’s free?
Yes! We are perfect for the whole family and children under 5 years cruise free with an accompanying adult.
How long before the cruise do we need to arrive?
We ask guests to arrive about 10 – 15 minutes before departure so we can get you checked in, meet your captain and board your cruise
Is there food available on board?
Yes, we do! On board the lake cruise, we have sandwiches, wraps and salads, plus lite snacks like cheese and crackers. EFTPOS and cash payment options are available on board.
Will the cruise go ahead if the weather is bad?
Our classic lake cruise is an ideal way to spend a drizzly day as well as a sunny day. We’ve got blankets and warm drinks to toast you up, spectacular views from inside, and cozy seating. In the unlikely event that the lake conditions are really unpleasant or unsafe, we may postpone or cancel. We’ll contact you with as much notice as possible and rebook or refund you if you are unable to rebook.
Is there a bar on board?
Yes! On board the lake cruise, there is a licensed bar with local craft beers, Central Otago wines and bubbles. We also serve hot drinks including tea, coffee and hot chocolate. EFTPOS and cash payment options are available on board.
Where does the Million Dollar Cruise depart from?
From the Main Queenstown Jetty, right on the waterfront at 50 Beach Street. Look for the Million Dollar Cruise signs; they are around our kiosk, and (unless we’re out cruising) Million Dollar Cruise 2 will be parked at the end of the jetty.
What do I need to bring on the cruise?
We want you to feel nice and cozy so you can relax on your cruise. Dress for the day and bring an extra layer or two. If it’s sunny, pack a hat and sunglasses to enjoy the views from the top deck. We’ve got snacks and a licensed bar on board with EFTPOS and cash payment options. And definitely bring your camera to capture those million dollar views!
Do you provide disabled/wheelchair access?
Sorry – not at the moment. There are steps on the jetty and on board, so the vessel isn’t wheelchair accessible. Prams and strollers are welcome, and our crew is happy to lend a hand with boarding and help you find a comfy seat. If you have specific mobility needs, get in touch and we’ll do our best to help.
Where do we go?
We depart from the Main Queenstown Jetty (50 Beach Street) and take a 90-minute loop through Queenstown’s most scenic spots. You’ll cruise across Queenstown Bay, follow the shoreline of the Frankton Arm, travel the length of the Kelvin Heights peninsula, and continue to the historic Kawarau Falls Dam, where Lake Wakatipu flows into the Kawarau River. We then return along the opposite shoreline for fresh views all the way back to town.
Route highlights:
-
The Remarkables mountain range and panoramic lake views
-
Queenstown Bay and Queenstown Gardens
-
Kelvin Heights peninsula and golf course shoreline
-
Local lakeside architecture
-
Frankton Arm and the Kawarau Falls Dam/bridge
- Wildlife is often spotted, and we usually feed wild trout and native eels off the jetty before boarding (when conditions allow).
Where can we park?
We don’t have parking near the boat because we’re located in the centre of Queenstown, on the Jetty. There are car parking options in central Queenstown on the roadside. Here are the two main parking lot options:
Man Street Car Park on Man Street – Click here for directions.
Wilson’s Car Park on Church Street – Click here for directions.
